Strong Roots, New Growth: Why You Should Move to Harnett County
Let's be honest. When you think of North Carolina, your mind probably jumps to the stunning Blue Ridge Mountains, the Outer Banks with their wild horses, or the vibrant, bustling cities of Raleigh and Charlotte. You're probably not thinking, "Gee, I wonder what's going on in Harnett County?"
And that, my friends, is where you're making a grave mistake.
Harnett County, nestled comfortably between the booming Research Triangle and the military might of Fort Bragg is a place of beautiful contradictions. Our official tagline is "Strong Roots, New Growth," which sounds very noble and promising. What it really means is, "We've got a whole lot of history, and we're introducing new and exciting opportunities in tech, medical, agriculture, manufacturing, hospitality and so much more.
Here are a few reasons why Harnett County is the perfect place to set down your roots.
The Commute: Beautiful Patience
The proximity to Raleigh and Fayetteville is a major selling point. Conveniently located about 30 minutes from either, you'll enjoy comfortable country drives along scenic routes. Yes you will inevitably get behind a tractor or some other peace of farm equipment but that's part of the charm. Harnett County is not without a little traffic (think Angier at 4pm Mon-Fri) but we're building bypasses and reroutes that allow for a smooth drive. It’s a delicate balance, much like trying to merge onto US-401 during rush hour. You'll learn the back roads, the secret shortcuts, and the exact moment when it's just a little bit quicker to take the scenic route, even if it adds ten miles to your trip.
Lots More Bang for Your Buck
Let's face it, things aren't cheap anymore (if they ever really were), especially in housing, but sometimes you find rare opportunities. The cost of living in Harnett County is a real gem. You get a lot more square footage and a lot more land for your dollar - lots of newly built subdivisions come with one acre lots. And don't get me started on the beautiful farmhouses that are abundant here. The point is, Harnett County offers you the unique opportunity to have more for less and that's why we're one of the fastest growing areas in the State. And if you're looking a place to plant your investment empire, look no further. Our proximity to Raleigh and Fayetteville, plus Campbell University and Central Carolina Community College allow for a steady flow of renters.
Our Idea of “Something To Do”
If you're in to bright lights, heavy traffic, major malls and everything that comes with it, we're probably not the place for you. But if you consider a peaceful hike through a 5,000-acre state park to be a wild adventure, then you've come to the right place. Raven Rock State Park is our crown jewel, where you can gaze upon ancient cliffs and the powerful Cape Fear River. We also have a few places that are truly unique, like the Aloha Safari Park, where you can see exotic animals from far away lands. And Harnett County is rooted in history with the Aversboro Battleground, the William C. Lee Airbourne Museum, and many other hot spots.
And if you're into coffee shops (my personal favorite is Cornerstone Cafe & Coffee), great places to eat, fantastic BBQ, cute boutique shopping, good beer (you'll love Stouts & Ales), and just a great time, then we've got you covered there as well. With our growing population comes more options and opportunities and we're always evolving.
A Community That's Not Afraid to Be Itself
Harnett County isn’t trying to be something it’s not. We’re a mix of rural charm and suburban sprawl, and we own it. We have towns with quaint, historic downtowns and others that are a collection of brand-new housing developments. We have farmers' markets on one corner and a new chain restaurant on the next. It’s the kind of place where you can buy fresh produce directly from the person who grew it, then immediately go to a big-box store for everything else on your list. And we have a number of local events that span the test of time like Farmer's Day in Coats, the second longest running event in NC only behind the State Fair, Erwin's Demin Days, Angier's Crepe Myrtle Festival and so much more.
In Harnett County, you’ll find that people are friendly, but not in an over-the-top kind of way. It’s more of a subtle nod and a quiet understanding that we're all in this together, trying to navigate the ever-growing population and the eternal struggle of finding a decent place for Sunday brunch.
So, if you're tired of the hustle and bustle of the big city and want a place where you can enjoy the quiet, open spaces without giving up the option of a 30-minute drive to a Target, come to Harnett County. We've got a lot to offer, and we're pretty sure you'll like it here.
